Sergio Furnari hopes to present Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah more details on his proposal to beautify the lagoon of the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque. The project consists on painting, firing and installing ceramic tiles in the bottom of the lake surrounding the mosque. Once the cement structure is created, the water will be purified into crystal clear water. This will allow the amazing Islamic artwork to be visible through the water.

Custom hand-painted ceramic tiles are fired and glazed at a solar temperature of 2000 Fahrenheit. Those special techniques and craftsmanship go back over 5000 years. The Furnari family has been firing and melting colors and glazes throughout the centuries in Italy.

This mega design for the bottom of the lake surrounding the mosque is just one of Sergio’s many visions inspired by Sicilian Islamic Art. He fell in love with the beautiful geometric style of art and he is currently working on a multitude of designs.
